No punishment, no forgiveness. God doesn't just forgive sins. Christ pays the cost of them. God will not exact the cost and the punishment for sin from any believer, because He has exacted that cost from Christ on the cross. That means that forgiveness was a very costly thing for Christ. When we see Him forgiving someone, He knew He wasn't just setting aside that persons' sins and choosing not to think about them anymore. No, He was going to write the check for pay for them. Every sin that was ever forgiven and that shall be forgiven was only done so by great cost to Jesus. And He willingly and joyfully paid the sum. Hallelujah, what a Savior!
