From the heart: seeking the Lord and discerning His will for His people as it relates to the study of His word is not always an easy task or an exact science (at least not for me). It results from relationship; it results from time with the Lord; it results from the heart's desire to rightly communicate to God's people what God would want them to know from the study of His word. Consequently, there are times when I am truly convinced to begin one way but end up changing course. This happened to me this week. I changed my preaching schedule from one topic to another. Earlier in the week, in a meeting with the men who continue to with elder training, I shared with them and sought their input regarding beginning a study on stewardship. Please know that this is not an easy topic for preachers and/or pastors. PPS2 Why? Sadly, pastors have not helped themselves by committing grievous sins in the area of finances. Consequently, many see believe that pastors are self-serving when they preach about finances. As I prepared to embark on this journey, I felt the Lord's prompting to change course. Why? Not because stewardship is not important; not because we are reluctant to study it with you. We change direction because I sense that a bigger picture is needed, namely a better understanding of who we are as His people...those called the church. Giving is only a part of our responsibility as a church. And what is the church?
