"Remember the Sabbath" this command begins: how far back must we remember? All the way back to Genesis 1&2. The Sabbath was made for man all the way back at the beginning. The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. We do not worship "a day." We gain what God would have us especially get from remembering the Sabbath principle by thinking first of all about SHARED SATISFACTION. This brings rest. God was completely satisfied with creation at the conclusion of six days of work. It wasn't just "good." It was "very good." Nothing was lacking--God could say, and did essentially say--"I'm satisfied" its finished. God did not rest on the seventh day because He was tired. He rested because He was finished creating. Adam and Eve's first full day together was the seventh day. They surely spent the day with their amazing creator sharing His satisfaction in the great creation He doubtless showed them in some explanatory detail. Hebrews chapter four has much to say about REST. There we are told to be as content with the finished REDEMPTIVE work of Christ as God was with His six days of creation works. God is satisfied, very satisfied with Christ's redemptive work. ARE YOU SATISFIED? That is a major question. Christ is our mediator: God is marvelously satisfied from His side of things. And what about you? Do you observe the 1 in 7 Sabbath principle with a view of shared satisfaction with the God who made it for you to His glory? This is essentially what it means to "enter His rest."
