Have you ever noticed how much easier it is to love the whole human race than it is to love the one member of the human race who is right in front of you? In Luke 10 Jesus had a conversation with a Bible expert about the law, "Love your neighbor as yourself." And that Bible expert understood what a high standard that was, and he felt condemned. But instead of asking forgiveness so he could be justified by God, he tried to justify himself. And his way of doing that was to soften the definition of "neighbor" so it only included the people he already loved. So Jesus told him the story of the good Samaritan. And the bottom line of that story is your neighbor is whoever you come across in your day—regardless of who it is. When you encounter people throughout your day, do you typically think of them as your neighbor?
