Having seen baptism, and having heard a brief explanation of what's going on in the sacrament, it behooves us to take a closer look at the Bible's teaching on this subject. So turn with me if you would to Colossians 2. We are going to look at Paul's description of what baptism did for the Colossians, and we're going to briefly draw some lessons from that for ourselves and particularly for those who experienced baptism today. The most important thing I want you to see about baptism in this text is that Jesus was cut off from among His people so that we, baptized into union with Him, wouldn't have to be. Jesus was cut off from the land of the living; we have been baptized into union with Him, sharing in His death but also in His resurrection.
