The blessed man is the righteous man, or the Christian man. Psalm 1 describes the righteous Christian. First, what he does not do. He does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, he does not stand in the path of sinner and he does not sit in the seat of scoffers. He is separated from the world. He evangelizes the lost, but he doesn't mingle with them as buddies and adapt himself to their worldly priorities and conversation in order to "win them." He remains separate. Secondly, we see what the righteous man positively is and what he positively does. He is like a tree planted by streams of water (the Holy Spirit). His leaves do not wither, he bears fruit in season, and in whatever he does, he prospers. Here is a true prosperity teaching. Not material and financial prosperity, but rather spiritual prosperity. The righteous man is always growing and bring forth fruit in season because He has been made a living tree in Christ and has been planted near streams that constantly nourish. The wicked, however, are not so. They are like chaff which the wind drives away. They shall perish.
