Scripture: Acts 8:1-25 Text: Acts 8:5-25 Sermon: THE GROWING CHURCH AND A FALSE PROFESSOR Points: I. Church Growth in Samaria II. Simon the Sorcerer: False Professor III. Apostolic Labors in Samaria
Afer the fiery beginning of Acts 8, we have two very intriguing events. First, we have the conversion of the Samaritans. It's remarkable really... they turn from their traditional (Samaritan Woman) type path, and embrace Jesus Christ as the Savior and Lord.
Well, in the midst of this reformation or revival among the Samaritans, we find a false professor, Simon the Sorcerer. He is a convert, but apparently a false one. He comes on the scene as one interested and believing the Gospel. His willingness to pay money for the gift of God brings his intent and the genuineness of his faith in into question.
The last words we hear from him are hopeful, but suspect.
