Scripture: Acts 8:26-40 Text: same Sermon: The Growing Church and the Ethiopian Eunuch Points: I. The Need for Faithful Teaching II. The Content of Faithful Teaching III. The Result of Faithful Teaching
In this amazing account of the Ethiopian Eunuch, we see the gospel extending beyond the borders of Israel to a Jewish proselyte from Ethiopia. With God's special care of this far away Jewish convert we see a demonstration of God's love for those who have sought the Lord and drawn near to him.
One of the most exciting parts of this story is the passage in Scripture the Ethiopian Eunuch was reading. Isaiah 53. Well, after Phillip left, we might well suppose that he continued reading in Isaiah 54. Well, we read there that the barren and childless would be multiplied to an abundance of Children. How's that for some pretty exciting news for a eunuch that will never father any children of his own. This is grace and purpose in God's Kingdom.
In retrospect, maybe the title of this message should have been, "The Growing Church Includes Jews from All Places." :)
