Good gardening requires two kinds of activities. On the one hand, the good gardener must uproot the weeds. She must destroy the weeds in the garden. On the other hand, the gardener must strengthen the good plants: the flowers and vegetables. She must water and fertilize those plants, so that they will grow and be more productive. So it is in our sanctification.
