This sermon gleans two important observations from Joel’s prophecy. The first is that the fulfillment of this prophecy at Pentecost is a demonstration that God keeps his promises. All of God's people should draw strength from that truth given that we have promises of God that are yet unfulfilled in our own lives. The second is that it is important to note that the out-pouring of the spirit at Pentecost was NOT regeneration, as so many in Christendom today erroneously assert, but rather a special empowerment of the Spirit of God that attended the growth and expansion of the NT church in the apostolic era. We know this by the indisputable evidences of regeneracy that accompany those upon whom the spirit fell in Acts - namely their devoutness (Acts 2:5) and belief of gospel truth (Acts 2:37).
