SERMON INFO
In Psalm 35, we hear David, the Psalmist, pray for justice for those in the land who are suffering under the hand of the unrighteous. He never loses sight of the fact that God is righteous. He calls on God for justice. He does not see it taking place around him. He is very much like Habakkuk the prophet who cries out to God and says, "Lord, how long will you make me see in justice? How long will you make me see violence? How long will I cry out, 'Save' and you do not save? The law is slack in the church because men have surrounded the righteous and men have let the law go slack.” He is like Habakkuk, but neither Habakkuk nor David ever accuse God of unrighteousness or injustice. David, in this Psalm, uses the term righteousness again and again. And he is sure God will work justice in His time. It's going to happen. I may be frustrated at His timing but I know that God is righteous. I know that King Jesus will restore His creation. I know that every for act of injustice perpetuated on the quiet in the land, on the on the poor, one day, justice will be meted because You, God, are just. That is the language of faith. It is hard when you know how much injustice will be done today, from sunup to sundown, to know how God will one day make all things right. But the faith of the believer is that God will one day put at right absolutely everything. Nothing will escape His justice; nothing will escape His gaze. God will make it right.
