So far in this section the apostle Paul has explained what the future holds for believers who have lived during the Church age and died before Christ's return. In the plan of God, they will be raised from the dead with a glorified body. This transformed body will be suitable for living eternally in the presence of God.
The question that is then raised is, what about those who are alive when Christ returns? In answering this question, Paul says he was given detailed information from God that had not been previously revealed, hence a 'mystery.' This 'mystery' includes the fact that not all believers will experience physical death, but all will experience a physical transformation. Both the living and the resurrected dead must be changed to enter the coming kingdom. This change will take place instantly as opposed to being a process as the sanctification of the believer is now.
What will happen, the sequence and timing are all further details revealed by God, to Paul and preserved for us as truth of great comfort, hope and encouragement. Such makes it no wonder this revelation is greatly malighed, distorted and even denied by many who are in the darkness of Satan's deceptions.
