Summary, Part 3 (final) SECOND, note the recipients of the faith, the Gospel. It has been ‘delivered to the saints’. THIRD, note the uniqueness of this faith. The common salvation is the only one God offers to sinners. FOURTH, note the completeness and finality of this faith. It is once for all delivered unto the saints. There is no more revelation. FIFTH, the duty required by the recipients of the faith, the doctrine of our common salvation. It is delivered to all of us, and we must preserve it. False doctrine divides, but true doctrine unifies. In fact, ‘heresy’ comes from a word that means ‘factions’. If we refuse to contend for the purity of the faith, the result will be devastating. A false gospel is of the devil: it inoculates sinners from the saving truth. 1 Jn 2:18-19 – John speaks of people who have been presented with the truth and rejected it.

Summary, Part 2 3. SAINTS WILL BE AN EVANGELICALLY OBEDIENT PEOPLE [19:23]. We don’t obey in order to be saved; we obey because we are saved. Lev 19:1-4, 1 Pet 1:14-16 – A holy people is a God-obeying people. Rom 6:19, 22 – Obedience to God’s law is equivalent to sanctification. Spiritual freedom results in obedience, not lawlessness. The requirement of the law is to fulfill God’s commandments (Rom 8:4). The Bible gives no credence to carnal Christians. 4. SAINTS ARE A JOYFULLY GRATEFUL, HEAVEN-BOUND PEOPLE [28:20]. Sainthood leads to heaven, and holiness leads to happiness and gratitude (Col 1:12). E. ALL SAINTS ARE OBLIGATED TO CONTEND EARNESTLY FOR THE BIBLICAL GOSPEL [33:30]. Jude 3-4 yields at least five exhortations. FIRST, consider the definition of ‘the faith’ of which Jude speaks here. It is THE faith. It is not subjective, but objective.

Summary, Part 1 We continue to study D. ALL SAINTS ARE LIBERATED FROM THE DOMINATING POWER OF THE FLESH TO LIVE LIVES CHARACTERIZED BY THE GRACES OF THE HOLY SPIRIT and move on to 2. SAINTS WILL BE A HABITUALLY PRAYING PEOPLE [starting at 2:52 of the audio]. This is distinct from ritualistic prayer and “scheduled” prayer. Saints are instinctually prayerful. Rev 5:8, 8:3 – saints are prayerful people and their prayers rise to heaven from earth. Our employment on earth is to be prayerful. A characteristically prayerless saint is a contradiction. a. SAINTS CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE FATHER [10:36]. Mt 6:9 – ‘Hallowed’ is translated from the same word that means ‘holy’. Holy children revere their holy Father. b. SAINTS CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST [13:37]. 1 Cor 1:2 – those called by God call to Him through Christ. c. SAINTS PRAY IN THE HOLY SPIRIT [15:34]. Eph 6:18 – Saints pray in the spirit for other saints. Rom 8:27 – The Spirit intercedes in our prayers and sends them to the Father according to His will. God’s will is always realized in our lives (cf. Eph 2:18).
