Summary, Part 2 (final) 2. SPECIFICALLY, SAINTS ARE CALLED TO A HOLY LIFE THAT EXHIBITS SEXUAL PURITY [25:41]. Sexual sin is as rampant today as it was in Paul’s day. 1 Thes 4:3-7 – God called us to sanctify and purify us. A life of sexual sin is incompatible with a life of faith. 3. SAINTS CALLED TO A HOLY LIFE ARE CONFIRMED IN HOLINESS IN THE LIFE TO COME [34:54]. Rev 22:11 – Heaven is for the holy, not the unholy. Holiness begins here, not in heaven (cf. 2 Tim 2:19). D. ALL SAINTS ARE LIBERATED FROM THE DOMINATING POWER OF THE FLESH, TO LIVE LIVES CHARACTERIZED BY THE GRACES OF THE HOLY SPIRIT [37:44]. A saint is a holy one, and he will exhibit the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:16-24). 1. SAINTS WILL BE A CHRISTIAN-LOVING PEOPLE [43:08]. Contrast Titus 3:3, what we were, with Ps 16:3, what we are now. Eph 1:15; Phlm 5, 7; 2 Cor 9:12, 13:13; Rom 16:2, 15; Heb 6:10 – passages on love for saints.

Summary, Part 1 We continue this study of the biblical description of a saint with C. ALL SAINTS ARE CALLED AND EMPOWERED BY GOD TO LIVE MORALLY PURE AND RIGHTEOUS LIVES [starting at 4:48 of the audio]. This does not mean a perfectly sinless life, which is impossible on earth. We are and continue to be consecrated. 1. SAINTS ARE CALLED TO ABANDON THEIR FORMER SINS AND TO BE HOLY, LIKE THE HOLY GOD WHO CALLED THEM [5:38]. We can glean some observations from 2 Tim 1:9, 1 Cor 1:2, and 1 Pet 1:14-16: a. Paul joins salvation with the call to a holy calling, which he in turn joins to the grace and purpose to which He has granted us in Christ: to be holy. b. Salvation and effectual calling is according to His grace and purpose, and not our works. c. Our calling and salvation are a gift granted to us in Christ before the foundation of the world, but we will live in our lives in holiness, righteousness, and in separation from the world. d. We cannot claim to be God’s children if we don’t live holy lives. 2 Tim 2:19-21 – An unsanctified person is not useful for any good works. 1 Cor 6:9-11 – Note “such WERE some of you”. Former sins do not characterize those called with the holy calling. What once characterized us does so no longer (cf. Eph 2:10). Rev 19:8 – The linen represents the saints’ righteousness.
