Today, I want us to look at one of the greatest stories in the Bible. Hopefully, it will move our hearts closer to God’s heart. In the story we look at today, we will discover the joy of God in the salvation of sinners. Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. He became a substitute and paid the full penalty in order to uphold God’s justice and simultaneously provide a way for sinners to be saved. In the story today, from our perspective we will see a bad sinner and a good sinner. I say bad because some people may fall into the category of someone who’s life seems to be a mess. On the other, I use the world good sinner, because we often categorize those who seem to be a good neighbor with morals as a little better than the rest. However, according to God’s Word, we must be reminded that there are not two different categories of sinners. Some are able to cover up their sin a little better than the rest. The Scripture declares that, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Every human being has missed the mark of God’s glory. Every person is deserving of an eternity in hell for sinning against Holy God. If we got justice, this is exactly what we would deserve, yet God sent His Son into the world to save man from his lost and helpless state. No one would make it to heaven by works. All are in need of God’s mercy (the withholding of what we deserve) and grace (the giving of what we do not deserve). Let’s discuss the subject of “The Grace of God”. We will consider 1) the Real Live Audience 2) The Reckless Living of the Younger Brother 3) The Religious/ Moralistic Living of the Older Brother
