Sarah's death reminds us of the certainty of death for us all, unless the Lord returns before. We are all in the process of dying. Some people are fascinated by the subject in a morbid way. They investigate it but are not healthy in their interest. Death can find us in a variety of ways. Are we prepared for it? Have we said all we need to say to our loved ones or to those who are our enemies?
But Abraham's experience shows us that we will all at some time have to grieve for others. This is proper for Christians to do and we need to be wary of thinking that grief will be the same for all people alike. Many factors influence the nature of the grief we experience. But in our grief we need to keep the future in view. Abraham bought a cave and a piece of land as a token, not only of his belief that all the Promised Land would be the possession of his descendants one day, but as a token of his possession of heaven. He believed he would see Sarah in glory. There is great comfort for believers in this.
