The most amazing thing about Esther was that she was able to conceal her identity as one of the people of God. Today the Professing Christian seems to be able to do the same thing. Esther is a reluctant heroine. Her life was one of assimilation into society. She is a picture of the spiritual state of Israel in her day. Their greatest threat was not annihilation but assimilation; not genocide but a self imposed suicide. God makes her a hero in spite of herself. Now in our day the church is increasingly assimilating into society with out knowing that this is their greatest threat.
