The believer's position and practice are distinct, and yet they are inseparably linked. As Paul writes, the Corinthians had not made this connection and it was evidenced by their conduct. Immorality was being tolerated, they were taking their disputes to the public sector to be settled, and they were quite proud of their position all the while living ungodly lives. To fall off on the position side will result in licentiousness while going to the other extreme of leaning to heavily on practice results in legalism. Both are erroneous - so the believer must keep positon and practice in balance as the Scripture teaches.
