In my estimation this is one of the most overlooked truths found in Scripture. While most of us know that “this vile world” is not a “friend to grace to help us on our way” most don’t realize that the same is true of many preachers and teachers in the body of Christ. Just because a person bears a Christian title, that doesn’t mean they are safe. Insofar as the church consists of wheat and tares so also will the office of preacher, teacher, pastor, shepherd. And thus John warns here, “many deceivers have gone out into the world.”
