The focus in Ruth 3 is on Naomi's plan to find a home and husband for Ruth, and Ruth's creative appeal to Boaz to fulfill the legal role of Kinsman-Redeemer. The kinsman-redeemer was a close relative who stepped in to buy back or redeem the property or person of a family member who has fallen on hard times. Boaz was willing to take on that responsibility, but willing is not the same as doing, and chapter 4 goes on to show us what Boaz must do to be Ruth and Naomi's redeemer. In the end, however, there is a greater Kinsman-Redeemer than Boaz in view and here we see the glory of Jesus Christ as OUR Kinsman-Redeemer!
