It says here in verse 43 that Joseph “was himself waiting for the kingdom of God”. He and those dear ladies, who are mentioned here as being Christ’s disciples, were waiting for what God would do next, in relation to the kingdom of His dear Son; the One whom they had recently seen, die upon the cross. What was coming now, they wondered? What was God’s next move? They had to wait for this, and it was not easy to wait. What would they do while they were waiting? They would still look about to see what could be done for their Lord. What does it say here in our text that Joseph of Arimathea and these ladies thought of doing while they were “waiting for the kingdom of God”? I think that there are 4 things that we can notice of here. 1st – It meant that Joseph as believer let his heart take courage. (verses 40-45) 2nd – It meant that they did what they could for Jesus. (verses 46 and 47, and chapter 16, verses 1 and 2) 3rd – It meant that they trusted that God would help them in relation to the things that they could not do on their own. (verses 3 and 4) And 4th – It meant that even though they were afraid, that they believed the message of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. (verses 5-9)
