Truth: 1 Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."
1. Temptation Is Not Unique—It's Common
We often think our situation is uniquely difficult—like no one else has ever faced what we're facing. But God's Word reminds us that no temptation is beyond what is "common to man." You're not alone. You're not the first, and you're not the only. The enemy doesn't have new tricks; he uses the same old playbook—targeting our natural, fallen desires.
Key Point: You will never be placed in a temptation so unique or so overwhelming that you are helpless. If the enemy could trap you without a way out, he would. But he can't—because God has set boundaries.
2. The Enemy Uses Natural Desires in Excess
James 1:14 says, "Each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed." Temptation begins with our own desires—natural ones like hunger, affection, ambition, or intimacy. These are not wrong in themselves. But temptation twists the good into excess, turning it into lust, greed, or selfish ambition.
Illustration: Think of turkey hunting. A gobbler hears a call that sounds like a hen. It's natural for him to respond. But what he doesn't know is that a hunter is using that natural desire to trap and kill him. That's exactly how Satan works—he lures us with what's natural but uses it for our destruction.
