This title is by far the bleakest one we have come to. It speaks of the suffering of Jesus at the hands of men, and the will of the Father, of him being despised, rejected, smitten, and afflicted. So great was his suffering that despite these descriptions its depths are almost entirely unknowable to us. Yet, at the same time, in Christ's suffering we find our salvation, comfort during our own suffering, and the encouragement and assurance of glory to come. Pray that we might grow in the knowledge and understanding of the mystery of Jesus' love for us seen in his suffering.
