Theme: Flee hypocrisy, it's not worth it in the end. In v. 1, Jesus begins with speaking to His disciples first. He warns them to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees. In Jesus' warning, we learn the grave danger of hypocrisy and the importance of taking Jesus' instruction very seriously to heart. In vv. 2-3, Jesus explains about the revelation that will take place one day. We need to live in light of this revelation by rejecting doing outward "good" deeds with a heart cold toward God. Instead, we need to make it our aim to serve the Lord out of love, and when we fail, confess our sin and forsake it, seeking mercy and forgiveness from our Savior!
