In worship we heard Exodus 32.Several of the passage's points were fleshed out in this sermon. Moses was on the mountain for a long time-God was doing something very special for his people. The people, however, are not feeling this and they get impatient and ask Aaron for the gods they worshipped in Egypt. But that is not how Aaron placates the people. If Aaron were a pastor in the modern church he would get a slap on the back for his innovative way of bringing people together, making compromise and peace so that everything could as it was. Aaron does not compromise and give them gods that they had in Egypt-plural gods. Instead he fashioned a golden calf, placed it into the midst of the and said, “THIS is the God who brought you out of Egypt.” In fact, he calls them to have a worship service with the calf and calls the service, and hear this, he calls it a FEAST OF THE LORD. He uses God’s covenant name to say "We don’t need a different god or multiple gods. Let’s make the one God into an image that we can see, understand and be comfortable with. We’ll put it in the middle of us, worship Yahweh the God of heaven through it and it will be a win win for everybody. You’re used to idolatry, you’re used to images. We’re not going to have different gods. That would be unfaithful. We’ll have the one true God as a calf and worship it.” We’ll God doesn’t take well to that. But Aaron would have been commended by nearly every denomination that exists today. “You the man, Aaron. You set things up so that the people the could still worship the Lord their God.” But God disagreed. Psalm 115 also makes a clear distinction between God and idols and leads us to give Him praise and glory.
