Isaac... the single most blessed man on the planet. A man that just had the Lord guide him to the right place. He went to that place and people with the right promises. God graciously reaffirmed His covenant with him and he allowed unbelief and fear to cripple his walk and life. Therefore, he misrepresented God, himself, and his family. He, like his dad, neglected the altar (lifestyle worship), because he failed to trust God. Now he's going to misuse the covenant and settle down in a land he was supposed to pass through. Both, Isaac and Abraham, took these costly, yet temporary, miscalculations and missteps in their journey (Genesis 26).
A good illustration is Abraham/Isaac WHO possessed the richest favor and blessings of God and when they lived by faith they transferred those blessings to others but when they operated from fear and acted out of character.
1. They transgressed their own commitments and convictions. (Taking resources from others and credit for a thing.) 2. They compromised their way of life. They didn't build an altar. 3. They temporarily forfeited the unique favor they walked in.
• Fear is common or a natural product of the flesh of fallen men, but power from God is uncommon or supernatural.
• Fear is a crippler... it will wound and cripple you, in more ways than one unlike love that builds and strengthens.
• Fear ruins our confidence but self-control reinforces our convictions.
