The human heart is so vulnerable to deceit that even our love can become Satanic. The Lord told his disciples that He was about to suffer many things and be killed. Peter rebuked the Lord strongly by saying, "This shall NOT BE..." Peter's motive was his love for Jesus, but it was in opposition to God's plan of redemption, which is the greatest act of love that has ever been. Peter's love was not pure love, but human love, which always has that selfish element in it. The Atonement of Christ has made a way for men to truly love with divine love, not just human love. When Jesus said,"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, that ye have love one to another," He was not talking about the kind of love that people naturally have for one another. "...the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us." Romans 5:5
