Once out of Egypt it would have been a short trip straight to the Promised Land, but God did not lead the children of Israel that way. He lead by way of the wilderness, and it was a long way around, but they had some appointments to keep and some things to learn and obtain before they were ready to take the land. This is the way it is in the life of a Christian, also. We do not get to go by the path of least resistance, or the shortest route.
