I like the way that this section begins in v 17 “And it came to pass.” If ever a statement had a long string of executions this is it. All the planning and all the instructions from the interviews with Moses at the burning bush and all the declarations to Pharaoh laying out God's warnings and plagues – with the command “let my people go” were fulfilled. “And it came to pass.” God was making history as the people stood at the threshold of freedom. I draw your attention to another phrase: “God led the people” v18a. That was true that night of the Exodus and it would be true for the next 40 years until they were right in the promised land. This is the confidence of every child of God. We sing the hymn “He leadeth O blessed thought. O words of heavenly comfort fraught Whatever I do, where'er I be, Still ‘tis God's hand that leadeth me.”
Is it true? Is there not an Exodus night in the life of every born again believer?
