What is Palm Sunday? For many, it is only about getting palms at church on a certain day of the year (Mark 11:8). We will look in the Scripture to find what Palm Sunday is actually about.
1. Palm Sunday is about the Lord Jesus Christ "Behold, thy King..." Many reject the idea that Jesus Christ is the eternal God (John 19:19-21) Psalm 5:1-2: "Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King" Psalm 29:10: "yea, the Lord sitteth King for ever."
2. Palm Sunday is about victory - We often celebrate the great military victories of man - But Christ's victory is a victory like none else - "he is just, and having salvation..." - we are talking about the victory of salvation - It is a victory where God takes the heathen and brings them into his kingdom - It is ultimately about a victory over death (1 Cor 15:51-57)
3. Palm Sunday is about praise - "shout, O daughter of Jerusalem" - Luke 19:35-38: "the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice...Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord..." - God looks for praise from the heart - By His deeds, Christ has earned our praise - Praise is owed to Christ - examples: (a) the women with an issue of blood (b) the ten lepers of which only one returned to give glory to God - Jesus Christ is not dependent on our praise (a) the crowd that shouted "Blessed" later shouted "Crucify him" (b) Christ continued on in His work because he was not dependent on the praise of man
