Solomon presents a scenario where a young and wise lad is better than a old and foolish king. In an ironic twist, Solomon himself could fall into both categories. His wisdom as a young king was unprecedented. But his heart was turned toward idolatry in his latter years. We must be vigilant in guarding our heart and seeking the Lord. We must also be aware that trying to please people is a fool's errand. People are fickle, but God is faithful. We should seek to please Him.
