“ The Evil Conscience, Concluded ”
Last week, Pastor Nutter began a study on the evil conscience and examined its DEFILED, DEADENED, and DROWSY manifestations. This week, he concluded with an examination of the DEFECTIVE conscience.
It signs are CARELESSNESS toward sin(toying and measuring sin), INSINCERE confession and HOLLOW repentance, greater concern for REPUTATION than for righteousness, and ARGUING with the truth to JUSTIFY one’s beliefs and actions.
Its CAUSES are Scriptural IGNORANCE, proud SELF-SUFFICIENCY, and SELF-DECEPTION.
EVERYONE is susceptible to a defective conscience: the UNSAVED are content to live with guilt, and the SAVED do not seek the washing forgiveness of Christ.
Its CURES are turning to the Lord in REPENTANCE, seeking the Lord in PUBLIC WORSHIP, and KNOWING that an evil conscience hurts other people.
AN EVIL CONSCIENCE WILL DESTROY YOU. |
