Our Lord Jesus loves His own Church so very much that He suffered, bled, and died for her. She is that great spiritual City which He is building, and He is our great King and commander of all of her armies, His churches. He shows us here in these verses that that it is perfectly appropriate for all Christians to honor His Church and speak well of her for her attempts to serve Him by His grace. Since it is the goal of the whole Universal Church to try to learn what would be pleasing to Him, all Christians are to have a high view of the Church, because He does. Christ sees what the Church does for Him, and He glories in it when it tends to His own glory and the glory of His Father. Let’s think together this afternoon of the 2 things which Christ takes notice of here, which glorify Him and advance His kingdom. 1st of all – Christ glories in the love that the Church bears to Him. (verse 8) And 2nd – Christ glories in His Bride, His Church, being one, the favorite of the one who bore her. (verse 9) Let’s see if we can learn the good things which our Lord would teach us about His Church, and what our attitude should be towards it. Do we glory in what the Lord glories in? Do we bless her whom He blesses?
