These people who had just professed to believe on Jesus were offended when He told them they needed to be set free. "Free from what?" "We are okay like we are!" "We do not see what is wrong with the way we are living." "Other religious leaders tell us we are OK to live like we do." A servant is one who is subject to the command of another. The main thing about being a servant is that he cannot say "no" to his master. The first step in following Jesus is to deny yourself, and that is what the sinner will not do. He cannot say "no" to himself, which proves that he is a servant to sin, and in bondage. He needs to be made free and only the Son can do that.
