When I was a kid my folks and I would while on vacation visit some caves and take the guided tours. Invariably at some point the tour guide would stop the group and tell everyone to stand still and then they would shut off the lights. We were so far in the cave that no outside light was able to reach us. After experiencing the total darkness for a few seconds the lights would come back on and the tour would continue, life would go on. Here God has declared that He would have war with all of the many gods of Egypt and each one of the plagues was an assault on some of those false gods. Up now was the most powerful Egyptian god Ra, the god of the noon day sun, whom Pharaoh supposedly embodied. This was not a normal eclipse that would last for a few minutes this plague lasted 3 days. God had indeed turned off the lights and He did it for a reason.
