This last week Japan was hit with a magnitude 8.9 earthquake. Hundreds if not thousands of people may have died and are still missing. In the midst of this tragedy, one may ask "Where is your God in all of this?" This sermon which was prepared prior to the news of the devastating tsunami, deals with such issues indirectly. 1 Thessalonians 5 speaks about the Day of the Coming of the Lord. The Bible assures us that that day will be like no other, but just like last Friday people in Japan were doing "business as usual", so the Day of the Lord will catch people unawares. There are four characteristics given about that day, which we should learn so that we are prepared and not caught "asleep" but the question that begs an answer is: Does God show compassion even in tragedy? Find out in this exposition from 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3
