God wants His children to have assurance! This morning as we study how God assures Abram of the truthfulness of His promises, I will point out four ways God gives us – His blood-bought children - assurance today. God gives assurance as we… 1) Remember the promises in His Word – v.4-5. Which brings us to our second way God assures His children. God gives assurance as we… 2) Exercise our faith in obedience – v.9-11 God could have set this all up Himself. God could have snapped His fingers and all these animals would have appeared already cut in half, ready to go. But He didn't do that. Instead God tells Abram to gather all these animals and cut them in half. It would have taken Abram some time and effort to gather these animals and prepare them. Thirdly, God gives assurance as we… 3) Consider our future in Christ – v.12-16 Why doesn't Abram pass through the pieces? A = God is taking full responsibility for the keeping of his covenant. The keeping of this covenant is based on the faithfulness of God, not on the condition of man. This reminds us of an important truth - Salvation is all of the Lord. This brings us to our final point. God gives assurance as we… 4) Realize salvation is entirely God's work and not ours – v17 Salvation is completely of the Lord! God the Father planned it, God the Son secured it through His life, death, and resurrection, and God the Spirit applied it to our lives. God made us alive, removed the blinders from our eyes so that we saw our hopelessness before a holy God and we saw the beautiful sinless provision of Jesus on the cross as our substitute. And then God gave us the faith to cry out repentance and belief.
