What is true spirituality? Is it the head, or the heart, or some combination of the two? In the past, the Church has been attacked for overemphasizing head knowledge and reducing Christianity to doctrines and propositional truth. Today, as a reaction to this, we see a trend in the Church to emotionalize the Scriptures and overemphasize "spiritual" experiences. But this has lead to many heretical doctrines like holy laughter and the word of faith movement. Dr. Fernandes examines this issue and shows that true spirituality is a combination of the head and heart. We have to know the right things about God or we are in danger of worshipping false gods. But head knowledge alone is not enough. We also have to have a personal experience with God. As the Scriptures admonish, we must "worship God in spirit and in truth."
