This morning we will begin our study of the gospel of John, chapter 8.
As we concluded chapter 7, we learned that while Jesus attended the Feast of Booths, or Tabernacles in Jerusalem, He taught in the temple during that week of celebration.
Although some of the Jews believed in Him as He taught, the religious authorities (Pharisees and Sadducees, and some of the priests) planned to arrest Him and kill Him.
But the temple guard sent to arrest Him, after hearing His teachings, could not bring themselves to arrest Him, upsetting the plans of the Pharisees and Sadducees. All their arguments and questions came to naught.
