Jesus Christ was a master verbal painter, a great story teller. Much of His teaching was in the form of parables-- true-to-life stories that revealed new truths to those who had accepted earlier teaching and concealed truth from those who had earlier rejected His teaching. His parables gave information regarding the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven. A mystery in the Bible is something that was concealed in the Old Testament but revealed in the New. And what was concealed in the Old Testament was that Jesus' offer of the kingdom would rejected and that there would be a mystery form of the kingdom between Jesus' first and second advents. Jesus Christ today is ruling over His spiritual kingdom in heaven, but one day will return to set up an actual, literal kingdom here on earth. In our study we are particularly interested in the parables that relate to Jesus' second coming. In this sermon we look at one from Matthew 13, the Parable of the Wheat and Tares that promises judgment at Christ's second coming. At His coming, the wheat (true believers) will be separated from the tares (pretenders). The tares will be cast into the lake of fire whereas the 'wheat' will enter Christ's kingdom.
