The Christian’s great and continual duty is an introspective contemplation of his own thoughts, emotions, words, and actions; to hold them up to the Scripture standard and our Lord’s own example, to expose and expulse sinful ways as the traitors they are, lying in secret in our hearts and minds. We are also to continually examine ourselves, to be sure we are in the faith, and not a self-deceived “almost Christian” (Acts 26:28), for the wide path that leads to destruction is marked with signs that declare, “This way to heaven” (Matthew 7:13-14, 21).
