Jesus' Transfiguration follows on from Peter's confession of Jesus as Christ and Son of God. It was the voice from heaven that Peter remembered most. In his 2nd Epistle he refers to it as confirmation of the words of scripture. We may believe the event took place partly for Jesus' sake. He conducted his ministry on the basis of what the Law and the Prophets had written about him. This was heavenly confirmation. It also took place for the disciples' sake. It showed the crucifixion was Jesus' choice, and it supported their faith in Jesus as Messiah. In Law the three were witnesses of what happened. It showed that glory was real, though, for them, it was not yet - they had to return to earthly ministry. It also happened for our sake. It confirms the truth of prophecy about Jesus. It shows the sufficiency of scripture as revelation. And it reminds us that God may confirm his Word in our heart as he did for Jesus then and for the Emmaus disciples later. How important for us to seek Christ in all the scriptures!
