Anytime you ever hear the word Sodom, what do you think about it? You think of fire, you think of burning and judgment. Most would never think of anything good. And what does the word Sodom mean? What is the literal meaning of the word Sodom? It means to burn, with this idea of being inflamed. And the idea is that the city itself was inflamed or burning with what? All these perversions of their passions. And they lived without restraint. Well, when you live that way, without any restraint, consumed and inflamed with your passions, the warning is that there is a sure judgment that's going to come upon that. That's what the warning, the Newer Testament says that Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them were examples for us. They were warnings for us. Peter talks about it, Jude talks about it, Jesus talks about it, and He says, that when people are inflamed with passions that are not rooted in the pleasures of the Lord, there's a sure judgment that will eventually come upon that way of living and thinking.
Now here's the thing. Even the wicked and ungodly nations surrounding the wickedness of these cities, or those who heard of their ungodly acts, recognized that their wickedness was on another level.
