Many "Christian" denominations claim to believe in Jesus but then add the religious works of their particular group as a prerequisite to being saved from sin. Prerequisites such as water baptism, sabbath-keeping, speaking in tongues, sacraments, law-keeping, etc. are erroneously set forth as being necessary to both acquire and maintain one's salvation. Such defective teaching is never taught in the holy scriptures as these works of the flesh would diminish the all-sufficiency of Christ's finished work on the cross if they were required by God for salvation, which they are not.
