God's people were carried off to Babylon due to hundreds of years of disobedience to His commands, which included not honoring God's requirement to provide the land a Sabbath rest every 7 years. God's instructions provided a framework for His people in exile, and it also provides believers today a framework for living in a pluralistic culture. All believers must recognize themselves as exiles (Hebrews 11:13) and live in such a way to bring God the glory due Him wherever one might live.
