In this class, we address the question, "What do we do with the Old Testament (OT)?" If we believe 2 Tim. 3:16-17 -- that all scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, etc. -- then we cannot hold to the view that the OT is some barbaric and antiquated record of the way God used to be. No, the OT is profitable for us today. If God is the author of it, then the OT is beyond anyone's criticism. It is a perfect revelation of God's perfect and unchanging character. What about the Law? Is it of any use, or was it just for the Jews? To answer these questions, we look at the New Testament and see how Jesus and the apostles regarded the OT. We also examine the myth that the Jews were saved by works, while Christians are saved by grace. No, both testaments demonstrate that those who are saved have always been saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
