God's way of authenticating the certainty of your salvation experience is to tell you to do what only Christians can do. Nonetheless, There is such a thing as a near-sighted believer who sees only the present, the now. He does not consider what will happen to him if he fails to diligently add, for instance, temperance, self-control. He is and we are a bundle of desires, many of them evil, some not essentially evil but nevertheless pose a threat when done to excess. Wisdom is to add temperance, self-control. Christians can and must do this or else fall from their stedfastness with undesireable consequences.
