The theme this year is ‘Out of the Depths: God's Forgiveness of Sin'.
This month we will ask the question, ‘What Does It Take?'—to forgive sin. Again, we must be reliant upon the biblical revelation. There we find that it has taken nothing less than the death of the Son of God himself to bring about the forgiveness of sin. In his own words: ‘this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins' (Matt. 26:28). Whether we fully understand it or not, we need to take this as our starting point: ‘those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, because a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions under the first covenant' (Heb. 9:15).
