In Philippians 1, Paul assures the saints that nothing hinders the Gospel. He rejoices in the fact that, despite his adversities (including those who preach out of selfish ambition to add to his affliction), the Gospel is advancing. However, he also rejoices that, through the prayers of the saints, the Holy Spirit will supply all he needs so that his adversities may result in his deliverance. Paul does not know whether the deliverance will come as an acquittal by the Roman court or God calling him home. Either way, his hope and attention is set on not being ashamed and honoring Christ.
