INTRO: We are looking at the church of Philadelphia. We have looked at it historically and we found a relatively young city compared to some of the others. We have also found here the second and last church which receives no criticism. This was a good church, a very good church.
The Lord’s description of Himself to this church was He who is holy, He who is true, and He who has the key of David. He said that when He shuts, nobody opens. When He opens, nobody shuts. I believe the door He is speaking of is the door to reach others with the Gospel. I would say this, only the Lord through the conviction of the Holy Spirit can bring lost people to a true state of repentance. Man is not capable of that.
When God dealt with Job, and he removed a tumor of pride from Job, it was a very huge job. Only God could bring Job to say the words we find in chapter 40:1-2:
